Gardendale's Jugtown Roots and Coal-Country Ground
Long before it was Gardendale, the community north of Birmingham was known as Jugtown for the pottery trade its 1820s settlers built there; coal mines opened nearby starting in the 1870s, and the town took its current name only in 1906, before incorporating in 1955.
